Admiral Arthur Phillip

Admiral Arthur Phillip was one of the outstanding men of the 18th Century.  He is the Father and Founder of Modern Australia, to where he sailed in 1787, commanding a fleet of 11 ships and more than 2,500 crew and convicts.  There, he overcame famine and a lack of resources, and successfully befriended the Aboriginal people.  His earlier naval career began in the Caribbean and with the Portuguese Navy where he serviced with great distinction.  He later saw service in the American War of Independence, the Baltic and South Africa.

Arthur Phillip was born in the Ward of Bread Street, City of London and to commemorate his memory an Annual Service is held at which distinguished speakers give Addresses on his life and times.
